Massachusetts Food Waste Ban won’t go into effect until October 1st

Food Waste Ban Massachusetts Bin of Food

It’s not too late! Great news if you’re one of the commercial businesses in the State of Massachusetts that will be affected by the upcoming food waste disposal ban; you now have until October 1st to get an action plan together.  Give us a call today and we will help get you going.  At no cost to you, we will talk you through an action plan that is best suited to your financial and logistical needs.  If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to get started, when you’re not under the gun and pressed for time.

If you are a commercial business operating in Massachusetts that generates more than one (1) ton of food waste each week, as of October 1st you will no longer be able to food waste into the garbage.  Instead, you must do one of the following:

  1. Donate leftover food
  2. Repurpose leftover food
  3. Send waste to a facility to be converted into energy via anaerobic digesters
  4. Send waste to a facility where it is fed to animals
  5. Send waste to a facility where it is turned into compost

This ban will go a long way towards helping the State reach its goals of reducing their waste stream by 30% by 2020 and by 80% by 2050.
