The challenge
Organic Waste is Everywhere
About one-third of all waste is organic. Food and Beverage Businesses know this all too well with rates as high or higher than 60%. Separating organic or food waste can be challenging without the right source separation strategy. Food service businesses need different organic waste separation strategies than food manufacturing, production or retail facilities.
legislative response
food waste bans
With organic or food waste accounting for over 25% of what is disposed into landfills daily, States, Counties and Cities across the United States are implementing landfill bans on any organic or food waste from certain businesses. For some companies, how to separate food waste is easier said than done. If your business needs to start a composting program, we can help.
The Solution
A Food Waste Management System
Every food business needs a food waste management system if they are going to separate food waste effectively and control disposal costs. A well-designed system includes the right containers, hauling contracts, data tracking, process monitoring, and education for both staff and customers.
We can help you design a food waste reduction and recycling program. We'll start with a food waste audit to determine how much organic waste is generated and the right reduction and diversion strategies for your business.

Missouri businesses: grant money for your waste project may already be waiting
The 2027 round is open now. Applications are due December 31, 2026, and requests of $300,000 or more need a written proposal by November 9.
Missouri's solid waste management districts run grant programs to keep material out of landfills. In the St. Louis-Jefferson district, private businesses can apply alongside public institutions and nonprofits, and eligible costs can include consulting, equipment, education and project staff.
The challenge is the application. Districts score projects on measurable results: tons diverted, cost per ton and targeted materials. A strong application starts with real waste data.
St. Louis bakery Companion Baking shows what is possible. From a peak of nearly 1.6 million pounds of trash a year, Companion cut more than 1 million pounds and reduced its landfill contribution by more than 75% through recycling and composting.
How we help
- Waste audit and baseline: we measure what your operation throws away, so your application stands on numbers a reviewer can trust.
- Grant-ready project design: we turn the findings into a scope, budget and diversion estimate.
- Measurement and reporting: we set up the tracking that grant reports require, then keep your waste data working for you after the project ends.
